Playful Personas: Devising Performance with HOIPOLLOI & Exploring Inclusive Cities
Date: 14 - 15 (Sat-Sun) February 2009 Target Participants: Artists, Educators and Drama Educators Time: 9.00am - 5.30pm
Award-winning UK theatre company Hoipolloi creates physically dynamic theatre that is driven by a fascination for the imagination and laughter.
In this two-day workshop, practitioners and educators will work closely and collaboratively with Hoi Polloi’s artistic director Shon Dale-Jones and associate artist Jill Norman to explore concepts and devising techniques employed by the company, and in particular the use of humour and self-reflexive writing. We will examine cultural and personal identity through our response to the theme of inclusiveness within the city, using personal histories and experience as the starting point for developing performance work and finding innovative and humorous ways to express notions of what we believe to be real and imagined, fact and fantasy, the known and the unknown. Come with an open mind and a playful spirit!
Ideas generated in this workshop will form a springboard for future work by the participants in SDEA’s 'Celebrate Drama!' in July 2009
Request: To better understand participant’s background, please register with a 100-word bio including any performance/ theatre, writing and/or multi-media experience.
Workshop: $180 (SDEA members) / $280 (non-sdea members) Fee inclusive of $30 ticket to Hoipolloi’s production Story of A Rabbit on 20 February 2009.
